Tsaru BV ("Tsaru", "we") builds calm, capable home technology with privacy by design. This page explains what the Tsaru app (part A) and the tsaru.com website (part B) do with your data, and the choices you have. The short version: your data stays in your home.

Part A — The Tsaru app
A1. How Tsaru works
The Tsaru app connects to a Tsaru Brain in your household — a computer that runs in your home. Everything you do in the app — conversations with the assistant, voice recordings, reminders, health data, calendar information — is processed and stored on that Brain, in your home, not on Tsaru's servers.
To reach your Brain when you are away from home, the app uses Tsaru's relay service. The relay only forwards encrypted traffic: the connection between your phone and your Brain is end-to-end encrypted, and the relay cannot read its content. Your device's identity key is generated and kept inside your phone's secure hardware and never leaves it.
A2. What the app collects, and why
- Email address — to sign you in (one-time code) and link your account to your household. Goes to Tsaru's identity service (needed to route you to your Brain) and to your Brain.
- Name, birthday, profile picture, language, voice preference — your household profile. Your Brain only.
- Messages to the assistant — to answer you. Your Brain only.
- Voice recordings (when you use voice chat) — transcribed and answered by your Brain. Your Brain only; not stored by Tsaru.
- Health data (steps, heart rate, sleep, oxygen saturation, weight, energy) — only if you enable it — to show your trends and let your household assistant use them. Read from Apple Health / Health Connect on your phone and sent to your Brain only.
- Location — only if you enable it — travel-time and departure suggestions for your calendar events. Your Brain only.
- Calendar accounts (Google, Microsoft, iCloud) — only if you connect them — planning and reminders. Credentials are stored on your Brain; the relay passes them through once during connection.
- Push notification token — so your Brain can notify you. Tsaru's relay keeps the token only; notification content is encrypted end to end.
- Technical data (app version, device model, connection events) — keeping the service working and diagnosing problems. Tsaru's relay logs, kept briefly.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties. Health data is never used for advertising and is never shared with anyone other than your own household Brain.
A3. Permissions
The app asks for permissions only when a feature needs them: microphone (voice chat), camera (scanning your Brain's pairing code), notifications, location (optional, for travel times), health data (optional, Health Connect / Apple Health), photos (optional, profile picture), and local network / Bluetooth discovery (finding your Brain at home).
A4. Your control
- You choose which health metrics, if any, to sync, and can switch them off at any time in Settings.
- "Leave household" in Settings removes your device and its data from the Brain and deletes the device's identity key.
- The household administrator can remove members and devices from the Brain.
- Because your data lives on your own Brain, deleting it there deletes it for good; Tsaru keeps no copy.
A5. Delete your Tsaru account
To delete your Tsaru account and the data linked to it:
- In the Tsaru app, open Settings → Leave household and confirm. This removes your device, your profile and all data the Brain holds for you (conversations, reminders, health samples, calendar connections) from the Brain, and deletes the device's identity key from your phone.
- Then email privacy@tsaru.com from the address you signed in with, with the subject "Delete my account". We remove your account from Tsaru's identity service (your email address and the link to your household) within 30 days and confirm by email.
What is kept: relay connection logs (technical data, no content) for up to 30 days, after which they are deleted automatically. Nothing else is retained.
If you no longer have the app, step 2 alone is enough: we will also remove your devices from the household Brain.
A6. Children
Tsaru is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
A7. Security
End-to-end encryption between phone and Brain, hardware-backed device keys, encrypted connections (TLS) to Tsaru's relay, and single-use pairing codes protect your home. Report security concerns to security@tsaru.com.
